Advice for pad printing on watch quadrants

Advice for pad printing on watch quadrants.

I’m a watch enthusiast and I’m looking for a way to print very small text (about 2mm high) on the quadrants of a watch.

After looking into it, I thought that a possible solution could be to use a decal transfer. I’d like to print in white. Do you have any suggestions?

The professional approach to printing on a watch quadrant is to use pad printing.

With this method you get perfect definition of the lettering in the colour you want.

However, to understand whether or not pad printing would be feasible, it’s necessary to know the number of quadrants you intend to personalize with the same lettering.

Indeed, pad printing requires:

– a pad printing machine, even a small manual one

– a pad printing plate exposed with the design to be printed

ink and accessories

Naturally, the costs incurred for buying all this would be spread over the number of designs printed.

The decal transfer approach is certainly cheaper, but less professional because:

– the lettering definition, on small prints, is inferior to that obtained through pad printing

– the thin transparent film remains attached to the lettering and doesn’t always adhere perfectly to the surface

A laser printer that can print white would be required for a white decal transfer. If you’re only looking to do a small number of prints, and if you choose to use decal transfers, I suggest you look for a suitably equipped graphics studio that does printing for third parties.
