I’d like to ask you some questions about screen printing inks: can they be used for hand painting on fabric, with a brush or roller? If they can, which ink would you recommend?
Water-based inks which dry at room temperature can be used for painting natural fabrics by hand.
So, the suitable inks are:
– the Texprint Mono line
– the Modatex line
– the range of water-based DIY inks
To be applied using a brush or roller, screen printing inks need to be diluted with water, just enough to make them more liquid.
This will proportionally reduce the ink’s covering power. However, if painting on white or light-coloured materials, this shouldn’t be a problem.
These inks can all be mixed together, but to ensure the colours remain pure and bright it’s recommended to only adjust the existing shades and not to create colours as you would using the primary colours.
The more colours you add, the more pastel the colour becomes.
When working at low temperatures or in damp environments, it’s always advisable to apply heat to the paintings you create, at least with an iron: this increases the resistance of the inks to washing.
